Occupy Indianapolis Protest, October 8th

This is what we saw at the OccupyIndy protest on Saturday, October 8th, 2011.

What do you think about the protests happening all around the country? Do you identify with some of what was said by the Indy protesters?

Very interesting and eclectic group of people. I don’t want to call them ‘lame ass winers’, but… It seemed to run the gambit from Marxist to ‘end the fed’ types. What I found striking was that only one person seemed to be able to articulate their point of few in a way that I would consider remotely persuasive. (Possible indictment of our public education system?) I can understand the protesters’ anger, but can they understand what is going on and why they are angry? I personally don’t have a problem with corporations. In the words of Dennis Miller, “I like corporations. It makes it easier to return shit!”

Love it. Dissatisfaction with personal circumstances  + dissatisfaction with national circumstances + the opportunity to congregate in a central location = random and incomprehensible assortments of terms and phrases used on national television by political commentators.
Joking aside, I appreciate the passion of these participants. However, I feel that it is misguided on a fundamental level. This group is dissatisfied with the state of our American society, both in the public sense and the private; the problem lies, however, not in a lack of understanding of what is wrong, but what is right. Each of the speakers was unhappy with things that they perceived as wrong with our system of government, yet the more important shortfall is that they could not begin to explain what end they actually desire. Once this is concluded, determining the steps necessary to achieve it is simple. This indicates, unfortunately, a national want of political knowledge, a common deficiency of understanding of basic political principles, particularly those upon which our nation was founded.Lack of cohesiveness as a group is a problem of unity, lack of cohesiveness as individuals is a problem of political character.
